Daily Homework
Nightly Reading
Your child will be required to read for at least 20 minutes nightly, or 75 minutes each week. To help your child to read books at his or her level and books of his or her choice, they have begun to bring home blue book bags nightly. Please have your child read these books with you or another adult. This nightly practice helps build your child's reading stamina and skills! While your child should be the one reading to you, a sibling, a grandparent, or other family members or friends, don't forget the importance of reading to your child often as well! You are an important role model for reading with fluency and expression! Please remember to record the number of minutes read and your initials on the right hand side of your child's daily communication card.
Monthly Math Calendar
I will continue sending home a math calendar at the beginning of each month. It’s a fun way to bring math into your everyday home life. Each day there is a different, fun, and short activity to reinforce the math skills that your child is learning in the classroom. These math activities are things that can be done at home, outside, the store, or anywhere. Math is all around us! These are due at the beginning of each new month!
Weekly Math Facts
Starting in January, we will begin a new math facts program. Each week we will play various games to help students become familiar with the different combinations that make up addition and subtraction math facts. Your student will also be bringing home flashcards to help him or her practice these math facts with you each week. Please make sure to practice these flashcards, AS WELL as old flashcards together to help prepare your child for the Friday math fact test. This will be a timed test of one minute to check how well they know the current week's facts. They will be bringing home a special flashcard envelope to keep their flashcards in. Make sure to keep these envelopes in safe and handy place to help you remember to practice these each night for about 10-15 minutes
